Rosie Flores on Working with Wanda Jackson and Janis Martin
Last year, country and rockabilly singer, guitarist, and songwriter Rosie Flores was named a National Endowment for the Arts National Heritage Fellow. The honor recognizes recipients for artistic excellence, lifetime achievement, and contributions to the nation’s traditional arts heritage. Flores visited the Museum, sharing stories from her career and when she learned she would receive this prestigious award. In this clip from the program, she talks about her enduring admiration and respect for rockabilly luminaries such as Wanda Jackson and Janis Martin, whose careers she helped revitalize and whose music she introduced to a new generation.
Flores is featured in the major Museum exhibit "Western Edge: The Roots and Reverberations of Los Angeles Country-Rock," presented by City National Bank, as well as the exhibit "American Currents: State of the Music."
