0 views · March 27, 2025 · Things To Do

Since it debuted in 1975, “Austin City Limits” has showcased the most illustrious talents in American roots music. Last year, longtime “ACL” executive producer Terry Lickona and frequent “ACL” guests Ray Benson, Ruthie Foster, Sarah Jarosz, and Robert Earl Keen visited the Museum to discuss the significance of the television show. In this clip from the program, Lickona and Benson discuss the origin of the show's songwriter specials, including the role played by former University of Texas football coach Darrell Royal.

This program, presented in partnership with the Americana Music Association, was hosted during AMERICANAFEST 2024 and marked the fiftieth anniversary of “Austin City Limits.”
