The Everly Brothers, ’Walk Right Back’ Live on ’The Ford Show,’ 1961
The Everly Brothers perform “Walk Right Back” on “The Ford Show” in 1961.
“Walk Right Back” was written by Don and Phil Everly's good friend Sonny Curtis, a member of Buddy Holly’s Crickets. The Everly Brothers hired the Crickets as their backing band after Holly’s death in 1959.
Though some of the duo's best-known hits came from outside songwriters (Boudleaux and Felice Bryant composed many, including “Bye Bye Love,” “Wake Up, Little Susie,” and “All I Have to Do Is Dream”), the Everly Brothers wrote their share of classic songs, too. Don Everly wrote “(’Til) I Kissed You,” “So Sad (To Watch Good Love Go Bad),” “Cathy’s Clown,” and others. Phil Everly scored an enormous songwriting hit with “When Will I Be Loved,” when Linda Ronstadt covered it in the 1970s. The brothers also collaborated in writing several songs, including the rocking “The Price of Love.”
