Learn Conjunto Dance to Freddy Fender’s “I Love My Rancho Grande”
Join dancers Rachel and Ray T. Rodriguez for a conjunto dance lesson to Freddy Fender’s “I Love My Rancho Grande.”
Freddy Fender was a country and Tejano artist from southern Texas. He mixed American rock & roll with country music and Mexican American conjunto instrumentation, which features the button accordion, bajo sexto twelve-string guitar, bass, and drums.
Fender's career spanned over fifty years and included membership in two supergroups, Los Super Seven and the Grammy-winning Texas Tornados, featuring Flaco Jiménez, Augie Meyers, and Doug Sahm. Originating in southern Texas—Freddy Fender's birthplace—Tejano music is a distinctive style of Mexican American music.
