How Jimmy Church Built a Career Covering Hits
In 2020, bandleader and singer Jimmy Church—a fixture in Nashville’s R&B community for over sixty years—visited the Museum for a special Musician Spotlight.
In this clip from the program, Church talks about the versatility of cover bands. His experience with such outfits led to steady success in navigating Nashville’s ever-changing musical landscape. Though he never scored a major hit as childhood friend Bobby Hebb did with "Sunny," Church built an enduring career as an in-demand cover band artist across the Southeast.
For more on Church and his crucial role in Nashville’s pioneering R&B scene, check out “Night Train to Nashville: Music City Rhythm & Blues 1945–1970,” a new online exhibit made possible by a major grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities.
