Kelsey Waldon on Growing Up in Kentucky and John Prine

0 views · July 18, 2024 · Things To Do

Earlier this year, recording artist and songwriter Kelsey Waldon visited the Museum as part of its “Songwriter Session” series. Waldon performed songs including “Kentucky, 1988,” from her 2019 album, “White Noise/White Lines,” as well as “Backwater Blues,” “Peace Alone (Reap What You Sow),” and “Tall and Mighty,” all from her 2022 album, “No Regular Dog.”

In 2019, Waldon became the first artist in fifteen years to be signed to John Prine’s record label, Oh Boy Records. In this clip, she discusses growing up in Monkey’s Eyebrow, Kentucky, and her working relationship with Prine.

This program was presented in support of the Museum exhibition "American Currents: State of the Music,” in which Waldon is featured alongside fellow Kentuckians Tyler Childers, S. G. Goodman, and Nat Myers.
