The War And Treaty Reflect on Their 2023 CMA Awards Performance

In 2023, The War And Treaty—the husband-wife duo of Michael Trotter Jr. and Tanya Trotter—became the first Black artists to be nominated for Vocal Duo of the Year, by both the Country Music Association and the Academy of Country Music. For the second year in a row, they were named Duo/Group of the Year by the Americana Music Association. They received two 2023 Grammy nominations, including Best New Artist.

The War And Treaty's appearances at award shows included impassioned performances at the ACM Awards; the Americana Music Awards; and the CMA Awards, where the duo performed their song "That's How Love Is Made." The song is featured on their major-label debut album, "Lover's Game." The Dave Cobb-produced collection showcases the full spectrum of the Trotters' vocal powers, soulful songwriting skills, and varied stylistic approach.

The War And Treaty are featured in this year's installment of “American Currents: State of the Music,” the annual Museum exhibit spotlighting country's latest chapter. Watch them reflect on their CMA Awards performance here.
